In the Spotlight: Sofa So Good

Sofa So Good: The Band You Don’t Want to Miss (or Do, They’re Pretty Flexible)

Sofa So Good is without a doubt one of the bands ever. This is not an arbitrary assertion, but a fact that we like to put on the table (or on the couch, because that’s actually much cozier). Their music is a mosaic of genius, born from the fertile soil of memes and a touch of serious musical ambition. If you like genres, we have good news! This band doesn’t fall into one genre, but if you really must, you can label them as vegan funk rock industrial jazz metal with a post-ironic sauce. In other words, they just do what they feel like and whether you feel like it, well … that’s really a side issue.

With Sofa So Good, the creative process often begins outside of rehearsals. That’s where the first seeds of genius emerge: a riff, a lyric, an idea scribbled on a napkin. But during rehearsals, the real magic happens, although even the band itself doesn’t quite know what that means. Maybe it’s the sudden flood of ideas, maybe it’s the snacks that are always there just in time. One thing’s for sure: sometimes the music is meme-afied so hard that a song is accidentally created. The perfect example of this is “Jimmy.” This song was literally jimmied into the world in the last five minutes of a rehearsal and is now an outright banger. Coincidence? Definitely.

Now you may be thinking, “Where does Sofa So Good get their inspiration anyway?” Well, besides memes and magical rehearsals, they also have a good nose for chill spots. Thanks to the Surfing Stingrays and their instinct for cool places, Sofa So Good ended up at a special, affordable location; Helicopter Amsterdam. They decided never to leave our couch (except for gigs, that is).

Sofa So Good‘s sustainable debut album, titled Trash in the Sea, is guaranteed to be the catchiest, yet rocking album of the past 3 days. What to expect? Intriguing sagas about characters like Jimmy (whose dog is also named Jimmy) and about the deep, dark caverns of night shifts in the song Night Watch.

On August 31, Sofa So Good celebrated the release of this masterpiece with a gig at the Zuiderzeeweg Festival. Did you miss it? No stress, they are also on Spotify, YouTube, at grandma’s tea, Instagram, iTunes, TikTok, and every other streaming service imaginable. If you can’t find them, you’re probably just not looking hard enough.
